Matthew joined Battery in 2008, and he focuses on investments in clean technology, industrial technology and advanced materials. Prior to Battery, he was Vice President of Plymouth Ventures.  He also worked for GE in their Renewable Energy group in corporate strategy, and spent time in Africa monitoring clean energy investments for a E+Co, a public purpose investment company.  In the early part of his career he worked for Alcoa in their aerospace group where his roles ranged from fundamental materials development to operations and application engineering.  He has a BS from Purdue University and MS from the Pennsylvania State University, both in Materials Engineering.  He also holds an MS in Natural Resources and Environment and an MBA from the University of Michigan, where he helped to develop a student run cleantech fund.  He was also a research fellow at the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise where he co authored a paper for the UN on policy and renewable energy project finance.
