Stewart Hancock is the president of Hancock Public Affairs, LLC, a company created in 2003 to provide government relations, economic development, communications and marketing services for clients in New York State and the Northeast.

As a result of HPA's work in renewable energy, especially biomass and biofuels, Hancock has spoken before many professional, government and academic organizations including: Columbia University School of Business; Empire State Forest Products Council; New York Farm Bureau; NYS Assembly Task Force on Energy Development; and the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology.

Prior to establishing HPA, Hancock worked for 30 years a newspaper publisher, editor and reporter. Mr. Hancock has also been active for many years in government, politics and community service at national, state and local level.

During Hancock's 18 years as publisher of Eagle Newspapers/Empire Media, the company grew to become one of the Northeast's largest weekly newspaper groups with 28 titles and over 350,000 readers. Although no longer active in day-to-day management of the company, Hancock has continued his involvement with Eagle/Empire as an investor.

Active in the Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA) and New York Press Association (NYPA), Hancock received the 2003 "Distinguished Community Service Award" from the Syracuse Press Club. He is a graduate of the American Press Institute (API) and has served as an API as a guest lecturer and consultant.

Hancock also worked as a reporter and editor at other newspapers including the Syracuse Herald-Journal, the Bennington,VT, Banner and Brattleboro,VT, Reformer. He has covered beats including city and county government and local and state politics. While writing for the Vermont newspapers, Hancock was the Montpelier bureau chief reporting on the state legislature and executive branch.
