NANIVID in 2D and 3D experiments with human and rat breast cancer cells
A new research tool called NANIVID (NANo IntraVital Imaging Device) is developed using advanced Nano / Micro fabrication techniques. This new versatile tool can be used to study the microenvironment of the tissue, especially tumors, which has therapeutic importance. NANIVID can be utilized both in vitro, as a cell chemotactic device and also as an implantable device for intravital studies of chemotaxis and cells collection in vivo. The chemotactic behavior of the tool is proven by migration of breast cancer cells towards the device in 2D in tissue culture conditions shown below in figure 1. The same device is used in 3D collagen matrix to mimic the human body conditions.

Electrospun Fibers
Electrospun fiber arrays have been developed using biocompatible materials for possible use in drug delivery and wound dressing.
Electrospinning Nanofibers: Process
- A polymeric solution is pumped through a syringe to a metal needle with an automatic syringe pump
- The needle is positively charged using a voltage supply (8-25kV)
- The resulting electric field causes fibers to be pulled from the droplet, thinned from whipping due to off-axis field forces, and deposited onto a grounded metal collector
- The solvent evaporates during flight and only polymer is left in the randomly oriented fiber mat

Electrospun fibers have been spun to facilitate formation
of acinar (salivary gland bud) structures, which are rounded
spherical shaped and between 50-100 microns in diameter. |
