WCNY: Tech Transfer

WCNY

In his State of the State address, Governor Cuomo reiterated his desire to invest in something called "technology transfer," the commercialization of new ideas from academia, or put another way, translating new research into stuff people will buy.

"Not only does the Governor want that to happen, but he's making it happen," said CNSE Vice President for Marketing and Communications Steve Janack.

By leveraging some state money with the success of SUNY's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, Janack says tech transfer can be seen in cities like Rochester, where sensor technologies are being developed with private investments.

"It's happening most recently in Buffalo, where the governor is investing money in creating a hub for the nanobiomedical industry. The first company is already announced and committed, and that's AMRI," said Janack.
