CNSE Professor and Head of Nanoscience Dr. Hassaram Bakhru Appointed to Distinguished Rank by State University of New York

Dr. Hassaram Bakhru of the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) has received a prestigious appointment to the distinguished ranks of the State University of  New York (SUNY), the highest honor that can be conferred upon SUNY instructional faculty.
 
In being named a recipient of the Distinguished Service Professorship, Dr. Bakhru was recognized for his extraordinary service over the past four decades, not only at the campus and SUNY, but also at the community, regional and state levels.
 
Dr. Bakhru has played an instrumental role in the establishment and growth of the UAlbany NanoCollege’s world-renowned nanotechnology initiative. He was especially important in the creation of CNSE, and has served as Professor and Head of CNSE’s Nanoscience Constellation since it was established in 2004.
 
First joining UAlbany in 1970, Dr. Bakhru has served since 1972 as Director of UAlbany’s Ion Beam Laboratory, a research facility that has supported collaborative research and training programs involving scientists based at external industrial and academic institutions, as well as in departments at UAlbany. He also served for 10 years as Chair of the Department of Physics, from 1994 to 2004.
 

In addition to an outstanding internal service record, Dr. Bakhru has provided important and enduring contributions to the larger scientific and educational communities through a variety of collaborations, partnerships, and service activities. Over more than 40 years of service, he has remained active and productive as a researcher, teacher, and mentor.
