Times Union: Venue shifts for big event

ALBANY —President Barack Obama will go to the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering instead of GlobalFoundries in Malta Tuesday when he visits the Capital Region, a White House official said Friday.
The change was made for logistical reasons, the White House said, but GlobalFoundries will join in the NanoCollege event.
The shift in the venue came after two days of meetings with Obama's advance team at the Fab 8 site, said Travis Bullard, a GlobalFoundries spokesman.
Reasons for the change include the fact that the $4.6 billion chip fab plant remains an active construction site with an administration building going up, he said. It also lacks a large indoor space the President needs for his event.
