The Business Review: Albany Nano exec: Solyndra collapse a ‘wake up call’ for solar industry

Today, executives from the California solar-panel company Solyndra appeared before a House investigative committee and declined to answer any questions.

The executives were called before the committee following Solyndra’s bankruptcy filing, despite receiving a $535 million government-guaranteed loan in September 2009.

A bad day for the solar industry?

Not necessarily, said Pradeep Haldar.

“It’s not about technology. It’s about business models,” he said.

Haldar, vice president for clean energy programs at the University at Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, said consortiums provide a safer environment for investors and developers of technology. Full article
