Position Title: Toxic Gas Monitoring System Technician

Employment is with the Research Foundation for SUNY, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.

Description of Duties:
 
The Toxic Gas Monitoring System Technician duties will include, but not be limited to: the day-to-day operation, maintenance and calibration of the site’s toxic gas monitoring system. This position also requires the ability to troubleshoot the toxic gas monitoring system (TGMS) components and be able to track and ship back such units or sensors to their associated manufacturer. Assist with life safety testing of all tools connected to the TGMS; support shutdown activities as needed; support operational issues as needed, such as gas detector, GIB and Scrubber faults. Position will assume a support role for the personnel that interface with the TGMS including ordering parts, inventories of supplies, training personnel and equipment preventive maintenance. Other reasonable duties as assigned.

This is an evening shift position: 3:00 pm – Midnight

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires an Associate’s Degree in technology, systems, engineering or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or Internationally recognized accrediting organization OR equivalent educational and professional experience and training associated in a highly technical environment AND a minimum of 2 years’ experience in instrumentation and controls or electrical/mechanical maintenance. Candidates must be willing to work on evening or overnight shifts and be available for after-hours support calls. Must have the ability to climb ladders and wear personal protective equipment. Must work well independently and as part of a team; be a self-starter; possess good time management and project management skills; have the ability to set priorities for multiple tasks. Must be computer proficient in Microsoft products; possess outstanding written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills; have the ability to process new information and formulate a written systematic plan for development and implementation. Candidates must address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior gas monitoring maintenance experience or semiconductor tool maintenance experience. Have the capability to maintain active Emergency Response Team (ERT) membership.

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background investigation; this position may be subject to annual background investigations.
